You may recognize April Hernandez Castillo from her many roles on the big and small screen, like Freedom Writers, Law & Order or Dexter.  You will definitely never forget her once you’ve heard her speak.  The humor, vulnerability and charisma alone will have you hooked!  Born and raised in the Bronx, New York and beginning her career as a stand-up comedian, she has a style and attitude all her own.  April uses that to captivate and inspire audiences across the country.

As a survivor of domestic violence, she has become spokeswoman for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and a nationally recognized activist and social entrepreneur.  Her Hollywood fame has provided a platform to connect with people of all walks to speak into their lives to inspire hope, strength and bold faith.  April knows the power of her voice and empowers our youth to understand theirs.  Encouraging them to always remember their voice is their choice.

Your Voice, Your Choice goes back to the beginning and leads the reader through April’s life, tells about her positive upbringing in a Puerto Rican household nestled in the heart of the Bronx, and emphasizes the reliability of that inner voice everyone has.  As the reader learns what defined April’s voice, they are also asked to dive deep into themselves and decide what it is that is defining their own.  It’s their choice.
